We are looking for an experienced Office Administrator/Paralegal with a background in property tax challenges to join our team and provide administrative and legal support in a fast-paced environment.
Position Overview: The Office Administrator / Paralegal will play a key role in managing the day-to-day operations of our office while providing legal support to the attorneys, particularly in the area of challenging property taxes. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and familiarity with property tax laws and procedures. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able to handle sensitive client information with professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing and filing property tax appeals, including gathering necessary documents, researching tax laws, and drafting legal documents.
- Maintain and organize client files, case records, and correspondence related to property tax assessments and appeals.
- Coordinate with clients to gather required information and provide updates on case status.
- Handle incoming phone calls, emails, and other communications, directing them to the appropriate attorney or team member as needed.
- Prepare and file forms and documents with local and state tax authorities.
- Track deadlines and ensure that all necessary filings are completed on time.
- Manage office supplies, schedule appointments, and assist with general administrative duties.
- Conduct legal research related to property tax law, including statutes, regulations, and case law relevant to tax appeals.
- Provide general paralegal support in drafting petitions, motions, and other legal documents as required.
- Assist with billing and accounting functions as needed.
- Foster positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, and government agencies involved in property tax assessments.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in an administrative or paralegal role, with a focus on property tax challenges or real estate law.
- Knowledge of local and state property tax laws and the appeals process.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal management software is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, especially when handling legal documents.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional demeanor and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with property tax appeals, assessments, and related legal procedures.
- Notary public certification (or willing to obtain).
